Greetings.
My name is Stephen and I am one of the many people who have transplanted themselves from the North to the South. I'm also one of the few who still miss snowy winters and shoveling snow. I am pretty sure that selective memory and a healthy sense of idealized childhood winters has something to do with that.
My wife and I are expecting a baby girl in September and we are thrilled. I am so thrilled that I feel compelled to start a blog about fatherhood, pregnancy, life in North Carolina and perhaps a little geeky gadgety stuff that revolves around parenting.
While I'm not sure what the future holds, here's a little of the past:
I'm a classically trained musician (college and grad school) who no longer plays (for now). That's a good thing right now. In the process of losing that focus, I found a whole stable of other interests that were being ignored. Most of those things revolve around high-end audio, tech, geeky things like Star Trek, Xena, Buffy...etc., computing, programming, physics, Apple gear... well, you get the point.
As these new things bubbled to the surface I discovered I have two fundamental passions; I love learning about how things work and then building new things from that knowledge, and I love to teach.
I guess that is why I am so excited to be a father. To me, parenthood is the ultimate outlet for those two fundamental passions. Not only do I get to learn, grow, explore, build, test, and see the world anew through my daughter's eyes but I get to teach her about it at the same time. I'm sure she'll have lots to teach me as well.
I have not focus for this blog right now, but I am confident that one will emerge eventually. There are patterns everywhere; sometimes we need the patience to let them unfold.
I hope you enjoy the site.
Cheers,
Stephen
